Investing In Bear Market Stocks During Bear Markets

Finding Bear Market Stocks That Have Big Profit Potential

Bear Market StocksA common misconception of people that do not understand the stock market is that bear markets are times to sell all stocks and hold only cash to avoid losses from bear market selloffs.? They do not realize that there are bear market stocks that offer opportunities to make money in the stock market during bear markets.? The key to making money on bear market stocks is to understand how to find bear market stocks and to invest in them at the right time.

During bearish stock markets, bear market stocks have historically outperformed the overall stock market and have become a safe haven that many investors use to ride out bear markets.? Bear market stocks include conservative dividend paying stocks, such as utility and consumer staples stocks.? Bear market stocks are essentially the stocks of companies that offer products or services that consumers will continue to buy regardless of the state of the economy.

During an economic recession, consumers make it a priority to pay their utility bills and buy consumer staples, such as basic food items and household consumer goods.? Savvy stock market investors realize this and buy utility and consumer staples stocks. ?This is why utility stocks such as Pacific Gas and Electric (PCG) and Consolidated Edison (ED) and consumer staple stock such as Proctor and Gamble (Symbol: PG) and Colgate-Palmolive (Symbol: CL) typically outperform the broader stock market during bear markets, and are good bear market stocks to invest in.?

When to Invest In Bear Market Stocks

The time to consider investing in bear market stocks is when it is evident that a bear market is occurring and is likely to remain for a number of months due to poor economic conditions.? While stock market investors sweat out a bear market, many savvy investors buy bear market stocks and get paid via dividends to wait for better stock market conditions.? It is important to remember that the stock market will often hit its bottom during the middle of a recession and start moving higher thereafter, even as the recession continues, in anticipation better economic times ahead.? Therefore, the time to sell bear market stocks and invest in bull market stocks is during the middle of a recession, when the economy seems bleak and appears to have hit bottom.

A good way to trade bear market stocks is to make a list of bear market stocks before a bear market occurs.? Identify the bear market stocks that did well in prior bear markets.? While not every bear market is the same, and the performance of companies can and often does vary considerably from one bear market to the next, there may be some excellent bear market stocks buying opportunities that can be identified by looking at the past performance of stocks during prior bear markets.

Muamba making 'strong, steady' progress

Associated Press Sports

updated 11:40 a.m. ET April 6, 2012

LONDON (AP) -Bolton says midfielder Fabrice Muamba is making "strong and steady improvements" as he recovers from his on-field cardiac arrest suffered during an FA Cup quarterfinal last month.

The former England Under-21 midfielder has been in London Chest Hospital since collapsing on March 17. His heart stopped beating on its own for 78 minutes while doctors worked to resuscitate him.

A joint statement from Bolton and the hospital gave the positive prognosis Friday, adding that he "remains in the intensive care unit."

Muamba, who has started walking and eating again, turned 24 on Friday.

The Best of British: The Food & Drink Expo and the Natural Food ...

April 5, 2012Posted in 2012 predictions, British Produce, Britishness, Consumers, Exhibitions, Food, Food & Drink Expo, Food and Drink, Future, Gluten Free Products, Jubilee, Levi Roots, Natural Food Show, Natural Product Show, Olympics, Quality Foods, Trade Shows, Uncategorized, blogsTags: brand awareness, brands, British Food, consumer pr, Consumers, Drink, Exhibitions, Food, Food & Drink Expo, Food and Drink, Food and Drink PR, Jubilee, Levi Roots, London, Natural Food Show, Olympics, Reggae Reggae Sauce, Shopping, Trade Shows

Over the past two weeks, I have had the opportunity to savour what the food and drink industry has to offer us in 2012. I attended the Food & Drink Expo at Birmingham?s NEC, the largest trade fair for the industry, and the Natural Food Show, held at Kensington, Olympia. The two shows were very different in their atmosphere and size of shows, yet both events had some strong themes running through them.

The concept of ?Britishness? and the importance of using British produce was very much all around me. With such a high demand from consumers for all things British, there was a lot to see at these events which showcased such quality foods. From smooth and rich varieties of cheese to the best in home grown fruit made into jams or juices, to freshly made quality ready meals. There was also a high level of gluten-free products which suppliers are hoping will reach many mainstream supermarkets or independent food stores this year. These products are also working around the biggest events to happen in the UK this year as some brands are co-ordinating their product launches with the Jubilee and the biggest sporting event of the year.

As ?34% of shoppers says that quality is extremely important when choosing where to shop for food and groceries ? the highest level for more than a year?, it is clear that consumers do want to know where their purchases come from, what is in it and how organic and eco-friendly are the products they are buying. We may be in a time of recession, but consumers still want to eat well, care about provenance and take a lot of pride in our produce. Brands are trying hard to tick all the boxes to meet the needs and requests of consumers and their values, and are quite effective in their exercise. Similar to Levi Roots? Reggae Reggae sauce (a guest speaker at the F&D Expo), the foods I encountered had a great story, a lot of drive and with the right backing they will be very successful in time to come.

World News - 'KONY 2012' sequel postponed

James Akena / Reuters

Ugandans from Lira watch the premiere of "Kony 2012," a 30-minute YouTube film created by the nonprofit Invisible Children. Lira was one of the areas that was ravaged by 20 years of Joseph Kony's rebellion.

By Sarah Grieco, NBCSanDiego.com

Invisible Children delayed the release of a sequel to the viral video "KONY 2012" from Tuesday to Thursday, according to the organization's Twitter account.

It was originally supposed to air on April 3, but for an unknown reason the group has pushed the release date back to April 5.

Calling it ?everything we couldn?t fit into KONY 2012,? Invisible Children will once again inform audiences about the use of children soldiers in the Lord?s Revolution Army in Uganda.

The video about LRA leader Joseph Kony has been viewed more than 86 million times since it originally debuted on YouTube nearly one month ago.

The organization?s founders and CEO went on a media blitz promoting the documentary, and depended heavily on social media to increase viewership.

But Invisible Children also came under scrutiny for the ?KONY 2012? film, with many calling it an oversimplification of the complex LRA conflict in Uganda.

Joseph Kony, former leader of the Lord's Resistance Army, answered journalists' questions at Ri-Kwamba, in Southern Sudan, in 2006. Although the Kony 2012 was much critiqued by people who found it dated and overly simplistic, a former child soldier said he supported the video.

A group of human rights activists gathered outside the headquarters of the nonprofit on March 30, calling attention to issues they claim were omitted from the documentary.

Invisible Children CEO Ben Keesey released a series of video responses to the criticism, and later created a page dedicated to the widespread critiques.

The group has been trying to get back on its feet after an unusual turn of events when Invisible Children co-founder and filmmaker Jason Russell suffered a brief reactive psychosis. Russell was discovered by police in Pacific Beach on March 15 in various stages of undress and behaving in a bizarre manner.

Russell was detained and taken to a hospital. It could be months before he can return to Invisible Children, according to his wife Danica.

Jason Russell co-founded the non-profit Invisible Children and directed "Kony 2012," a video that has 86 million views on YouTube.

Invisible Children volunteers and workers made little to no public appearances following the incident and the new video will be the group?s first major push since Russell?s hospitalization.

The new video will also include an update on its ?Cover the Night? event on April 20 and will air on the Invisible Children YouTube page on Thursday.

New Zealand charges owners of stricken ship with causing environmental disaster

Handout / Reuters

The bow section of the stricken container ship Rena remains above water about 14 nautical miles from Tauranga on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island, in this April 4 handout picture. The remains of the ship are stuck on a rock reef six months after it ran aground, in what authorities say is one of the nation's worst environmental disasters.

By Reuters

WELLINGTON, New Zealand?-- The owners of a stricken container ship wrecked on a reef off a popular New Zealand holiday spot have been charged with causing the country's worst environmental disaster in decades, maritime officials said on Thursday.

Daina Shipping, a unit of Greece's Costamare Inc., has been charged with discharging harmful substances after its 47,230-ton Liberian-flagged ship Rena struck a reef about?12 miles off Tauranga, New Zealand's biggest export port, in early October.

The charge carries a maximum fine of?$488,000. The owners face an additional daily fine of $8,130.

The ship's captain and second officer have already pleaded guilty to operating the ship in a dangerous manner, releasing toxic substances and to altering the ship's documents.

The two Filipino men face sentences of up to seven years in jail. They will be sentenced in late May.

Marine officials said high winds and seas have battered the wreck, causing more containers to fall into the sea and spreading oil still leaking from the ship.

The ship spilt around 3301 tons of thick, toxic fuel oil when it hit the reef, killing thousands of sea birds and polluting beaches up to 60 miles from the reef.
