FORNEY, Texas (AP) - After seeing the remnants of his tornado-ravaged home in Forney, Juan Ventura Jr. doubted he'd ever see his dog Oscar again.
But later that day, about a mile away, a family took photographs of a frightened brindle boxer who, like many pets during natural disasters, had dashed away from home.
Thanks to Facebook those photos quickly spread, including to a page set up especially to help pets and owners reconnect after last week's North Texas tornadoes. Within two days, Oscar and Ventura were reunited.
Social media is a growing trend in the often chaotic aftermath of natural disasters to help owners find their disoriented pets. Facebook pages and websites were set up after wildfires destroyed more than 1,600 homes in Bastrop, and after deadly tornadoes swept through Alabama last April.
