Texas Tech coach Billy Gillispie, who has come under fire for his treatment of players, also had broken NCAA rules with marathon practices, several of his former players told CBSSports.com.
Kevin Wagner and Jaron Nash both told CBSSports.com on Friday that Gillispie often practiced in excess of four hours -- which is against NCAA rules -- and once went nearly eight hours on a Saturday early last November. The NCAA permits coaches to practice for no more than four hours per day and 20 per week.
"We practiced a lot more than 20 hours a week," Wagner said.
Gillispie and Red Raiders athletic director Kirby Hocutt did not immediately respond to calls from CBSSports.com. A source close to Gillispie told CBSSports.com's Gary Parrish early Friday that "this is very, very serious" when asked whether Gillispie's job is in danger.
"We practiced two hours, then he told us to leave and go shave because he didn't like the way we looked," said Wagner, who is now at McClellan Junior College. "Then we came back, practiced two more hours before he told us to get a haircut. Then we came back and did about four more before he kicked us out."
Another ex-player, who did not wish to be identified, estimated the entire November practice lasted a total of 10 hours.
"We used to go more than four hours all the time," added Nash, who transferred to North Dakota after last season. "I remember that day when we went almost all day. We didn't leave until 9 p.m. or so. It was pretty bad. A lot of guys were really hurt after it. One guy had a stress fracture in both legs."
Texas Tech issued this statement about its basketball program: "We are aware and are looking into concerns within the leadership of our men?s basketball program. Student-athlete well-being is our top priority and a matter we take extremely seriously at Texas Tech. Texas Tech is devoting its full resources to look into this matter."
Gillispie also was hospitalized, and the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported that the coach was in satisfactory condition. Multiple coaches told CBSSports.com that they did not see Gillispie throughout the entire July recruiting period, a rarity for a coach known for his tireless work ethic.
Former players maintain it's more than just about an excess of practice.
"If you were hurt, he told you that you had to stay in the training room all day -- from 6 or 7 in the morning until 10 at night," Wagner said. "Stay in there and get treatment over and over and over. We couldn't leave. My mom had to come and bring me food."
Both players also said that it was commonplace for Gillispie to hold two hour, full-speed practices only hours prior to games.
"Guys were worn out and sleeping by the time the games started," said Nash, who also said that Gillispie had nothing to do with his decision to transfer.
Wagner added, "Basketball wasn't fun anymore. It got to a point where I didn't like playing."
Nash said he almost didn't go to Texas Tech after Gillispie pulled a job offer to his former junior college assistant coach, ex-Indiana player Tom Coverdale. When reached, Coverdale confirmed that Gillispie initially offered him a full-time coaching position, but only days before his expected arrival on campus switched the offer to that of an assistant strength coach which paid about half the salary. Coverdale, who now works at Shepherd Insurance in Indiana, already had resigned his position at Tyler Junior College.
"After he changed his position, I wasn't planning on coming," Nash said. "But then Coach G [Gillispie] kept calling and apologizing, so I finally decided to go."
Coverdale said, "It's really unfortunate that we have guys like that there [who] do absolutely anything to get ahead."
Nash said Gillispie was not the reason he transferred, saying his father became ill. "Coach Gillispie had nothing to do with me transferring," Nash said. "I left mainly because my father was sick."
According to sources, former assistant Chris Beard -- who had worked for both Bob and Pat Knight in Lubbock -- resigned shortly after Gillispie took over, in part due to the way the Coverdale situation went down. He was just one of many people -- secretaries, trainers, video coordinators, graduate assistants and academic advisors -- who left Texas Tech early in Gillispie's tenure.
Gillispie went only 8-23 last season, his first since being hired with a five-year deal by Hocutt. He spent two seasons as the head coach at Kentucky and was also at Texas A&M and UTEP. Six players transferred off last season's Texas Tech team: Wagner, Nash, Cameron Forte (Howard Junior College), DeShon Minnis (Rhode Island), Javarez Wills (Ohio) and Terran Petteway (Nebraska).
The one thing we can saying with certainty about the NFL and the locked-out officials is that they?re not saying anything to each other.? Until they do, they won?t be able to bridge the gap on financial and other issues.
So if they were to sit down and try, what would the gap be?
The driving factor is, as always, money.? The league contends that it has offered annual raises between five and 11 percent, pointing out that the average pay for NFL officials last season was $149,000.? (Not bad for a hobby.)? Under the NFL?s most recent (and perhaps final) proposal, the average official would earn $189,000 by 2018.
First-year officials earned, on average, $78,000 in 2011.? Under the NFL?s most recent (and perhaps final) proposal, the average first-year official from 2011 would be making $165,000 by 2018.
The officials, obviously, want more.? (Otherwise, they?d have a deal.)? The characterization of the gap depends on the perspective of the party characterizing it.? The NFLRA says it amounts to $100,000 per team per year.? Factoring in the preseason, that?s $5,000 per team per game.? The league sees the difference more broadly, as a canyon that amounts t $22.7 million over seven years.? (Of course, over those same seven years the league will likely have generated more than $70 billion in total revenues.)
With 119 total officials, it all works out to an average divide of $27,250 per official per year.
Another major dispute flows from retirement benefits.? Like many employers, the NFL wants to convert its defined benefit plan to a 401(k) defined contribution plan, shifting the risks of the market to the individual employees.? Given that, for most if not all officials, working games is a well-paying hobby, being treated in their hobbies like the vast majority of American workers shouldn?t be a big deal.
The NFL also wants to add 21 more officials (three total crews), in order to provide the league with a ?bench? that could be used during the season to replace officials who are struggling.? While the league apparently would be paying all officials out of the same pot, if the average increases cited by the league take into account the expanded roster of officials, it should be a non-issue.? (It?s likely an issue because the locked-out officials don?t want to have in-season accountability.)
The issue of full-time officials could be controversial not for what it means now but for what it could mean in the future.? If the NFL plans to eventually convert their officials to full-time employees (as the NFL should), the total package of compensation likely will be less than the total money earned by many officials in their ?real? jobs and at their hobbies.? The locked-out officials likely prefer to not go down that path at all.
Many would prefer that the league not go down the path of replacement officials, but if the locked-out officials aren?t willing to accept what some would regard as an objectively fair offer, what should the NFL do?? Not play the games?? Or cave in to the demands simply because the NFL can ?afford? to pay the locked-out officials what they want?
While it?s reasonable for the officials to look at the success of the game and say ?we want more,? the officials need to realize that no one goes to the games to see them, and that they are indeed replaceable.
The problem is that the process of replacing all of them at once with only a few months to prepare puts the league in a delicate spot.? And the locked-out officials know it.
We?re trying hard not to pick sides on this one.? We just want the regular officials to get back on the job, which will happen sooner rather than later only if the two sides start talking.
While it?s easy to insist that the NFL bridge the gap because the NFL has the money to do it, the locked-out officials aren?t exactly hurting, either.? And so, if the replacement officials end up screwing things up, we?ll ultimately blame not only the entity that locked out the regular officials but also the regular officials who forced the lockout by wanting more of a raise than most Americans are currently getting in their primary (and only) jobs.
Effective internet marketing can make or break your business online. Regardless of the products or services you are selling, these tips provide a few of the ins and outs of internet marketing that will improve your sales figures. Whether you are new to online marketing or your business has had an online presence for many years, applying these tips produces positive results.
Your business should have slogans. If your business is not unique, it will not stand out to the people who visit your website. Your logos and your slogans should follow the same theme to really deliver a maximum impact. You will also build brand recognition by giving your business personality.
Consider adding to your internet marketing plan by posting a series of online videos. This new technology allows businesses to target customers that they might not have been able to reach otherwise. You can add short videos to several popular websites for a reasonable price, and this tactic should increase traffic on your website.
Don?t run your Twitter campaign entirely by hand when you can automate some of it with the Twitter API. This powerful tool lets you perform some Twitter functions automatically, such as posting content and following other users. You can even use the API to react to events elsewhere on the web with proper coding.
During the holidays of the year such as Christmas, make sure that you offer as many deals as possible on your site. This is the time where most companies are going to offer bargains, so you do not want to be behind the curve with high prices that are not attractive to customers.
When marketing a product or business online, make good use of logos and branding. Having an easily remembered and distinguishable logo will help people remember your business and help them connect your products to your company. People tend to remember pictorial logos better than the name of the company alone.
If you can, offer free advertising space to a few companies. Select these companies carefully: you want this to give a positive image of your website and attract other companies who will want to pay for advertising space. If no one seems interested in buying space, do not provide free space anymore.
A great internet marketing tool is to give a portion of your proceeds to charity. Find a charity that you feel your customer base would approve of and then indicate that a certain percentage of each sale will go to said charity. This is a great way to increase your sales as people will feel they are helping charities out.
With the right mindset and the proper tools, even the smallest business can enjoy huge returns on their investments in online marketing tools and strategies. Rather than allowing your company to miss out on valuable opportunities, follow the advice from this article, and make the most of available online resources and tools.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) ? Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will focus on veterans' issues with a Wednesday speech to the American Legion as speakers at the GOP convention address defense and foreign affairs.
The Republican nominee is making a day-trip detour to Indiana to speak to the veterans' service organization as the convention here continues. Sen. John McCain ? nominated four years ago only to lose to Democrat Barack Obama ? will address delegates Wednesday evening, as will former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, had planned to address the convention from Indianapolis by video hook-up in conjunction with McCain, a Navy veteran and former prisoner of war. But campaign officials said Wednesday that that address had been scrapped, and that Romney would return to Tampa instead of spending the night in Indiana.
The convention schedule ? and Romney's plans ? promise a focus on foreign affairs before Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, Romney's running mate, addresses the gathering Wednesday night. Aides say Romney also will touch on foreign policy in convention speech Thursday night.
The former Massachusetts governor, officially nominated Tuesday, is looking to burnish his credentials as a plausible commander in chief.
He's getting backing from Rice, who speaks at the convention Wednesday night.
She told "CBS This Morning" that Romney "would understand American exceptionalism and would not be afraid to lead from the front."
Rice said the Nov. 6 election is about "the future of American leadership" in the world. She said U.S. policy on Syria has been ineffective. Asked what she thinks Obama has done wrong, the former Bush administration official said Washington has been losing influence around the world because Obama has repeatedly demanded that Syrian President Bashar Assad step aside and nothing has happened.
McCain is set to speak at 8 p.m. Eastern time, followed hours later by Rice.
In an interview Tuesday, McCain said he was glad to have a role in Romney's convention, however small.
"It's not my show," the five-term Arizona senator said. "I'm just grateful they asked me to speak."
How do PR professionals change their industry?s reputation from spin zone to profit centre? By breaking out of the media relations box and going back to business school, suggests CEO and author Gini Dietrich.
Inside Harvard Business School's Baker Library. Image by Jeff Hester via Flickr.
A few weeks ago I was in a meeting with a prospective client. At the end of the conversation, the chief marketing officer said, ?I see you don?t refer to yourselves as PR pros? and your proposal doesn?t have any mention of it. Why is that??
I explained that when people say they need a PR firm, they really mean they want someone to get them stories, which is an ego-driven metric, and only one tactic of a larger marketing and communications program.
Even though we were ending the meeting when she asked, we ended up talking for another 45 minutes about this new world we live in and what public relations really does for an organization. Which is much more than you think.
What is PR anyway?
Image by Letizia Tasselli via Flickr.
The PR industry has, for a very long time, used media relationsas the example when describing what we do because it?s tangible. Just like you can hold or view an ad, you can hold or view a story a reporter has written or produced.
But while media relations is fantastic for brand awareness and credibility, it doesn?t drive business results unless it?s integrated with other tactics.
And using media relations as ?the thing? the industry does is doing us a huge disservice.
There are many other tactics we use: crisis planning, monitoring and listening, issues management, messaging, creating and telling stories, speaking engagements, content development, events, guerilla marketing, internal communication, social media, lobbying, audits, market research, community development, influencer relations, blogger relations, word of mouth, contests, trends development and more.
Some of us even integrate what might be considered more traditional marketing: e-mail, database development, search engine optimization, trade shows, search engine marketing, inbound marketing, gamification and mobile technology.
When you combine tactics such as these, you have an integrated marketing and communications program that drives results ? real results such as improved margins, shortened sales cycles and increased revenues.
Self-hating PR professionals
But even the new definition of PR that the Public Relations Society of America announced earlier this year doesn?t help the industry:
Public relations is a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics.
It continues to refer to media relations as the only tactic in a communicator?s toolbox. It?s like saying you have to build a house with only one hammer.
So the industry has begun to see a move toward other descriptors of what we do (social media, marketing, integrated marketing communications). Meanwhile, many of us have stopped saying we do PR.
I grew up in a traditional PR firm but I?ve been smart enough to realize organizations will pay for your relationships with journalists only for so long. They soon want to know what?s next and how those relationships will help them grow a business.
That?s something most PR pros don?t know because it requires an understanding of how an organization makes money, the difference between a balance sheet and a P&L, and how margins affect profitability.
Those are things we?re not taught in school. And, unless you run the PR firm or start your own, the closest you?ll get in your career is managing a budget.
Let?s all go to business school
Outside of Harvard's Baker Library. Image by Chris Han via Flickr.
The fact of the matter is, PR pros need a business education. The major needs to move from the liberal arts college to the business school or at least require some business classes before graduation.
Sure, most PR pros are right brained. It?s essential to be creative enough to tell stories in compelling ways, to provide valuable information that helps others do their jobs, and to build relationships on behalf of organizations.
But the PR pro of tomorrow has to fight the black eye and learn everything they can about the business side of things. Otherwise they?ll always be known as media relations specialists. And that?s just not enough anymore.
Sunday night the fifth season of True Blood came to an end. As a huge fan of the show, I have a few gripes. First of all – Sookie’s dresses this season were too cutsie! I know girlfriend is knocked up in real life, with twins at that, but damn! We are used to seeing her in some hot outfits, so the pink frilly dress was a bit much. Second – we never meet Warlow??? Hello – this was too big of a thing to NOT introduce IMO. Third – the season is too short and goes nine freakin’ months before giving us anything new. That is just crap. I’m sorry, but it is. After the show, HBOGO posted a bonus clip where we get to see what happened after Tara, Jason, Jessica and Pam go up the elevator. Tara and Pam set up a date, Jason goes all vampire killer and Nora reveals that she knows a lot more about Warlow. Shocking. Some of the producers and writers have also given us some insight or spoilers to season six. Is Bill a God? Will Sookie and Eric once again be together (please let’s give this a REAL shot), Hoyt [...]
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) ? Lexmark is cutting 1,700 jobs, or almost 13 percent of its workforce, and says it will stop making inkjet printers as part of a drive to cut costs as it deals with shrinking sales of inkjets.
The printer and software company said Tuesday that it will close its inkjet supply plant in the Philippines by the end of 2015. It is also putting its inkjet technology up for sale.
Lexmark had about 13,300 employees as of Dec. 31. Lexmark has been shifting its focus from consumer inkjet printers, focusing on higher-profit laser printers and supplies for businesses and software services.
It has made a series of acquisitions, including Luxembourg's BDGB Enterprise for about $148 million. This purchase included BDGB's U.S. subsidiary Brainware Inc., which provides data capture software to businesses.
The job cuts include about 1,100 manufacturing jobs. Lexmark says the moves will save it $85 million in 2013 and $95 million a year by 2015. It expects to book costs of $160 million over three years for the restructuring.
Lexmark International Inc., based in Lexington, Ky., says it will continue to provide support and supplies for its inkjet printers still in use.
The restructuring is the second in less than a year for Lexmark, which said in January it would cut 625 jobs.
Lexmark in July reported second-quarter results that fell short of Wall Street expectations as the economic crisis in Europe pulled down demand.
Lexmark's stock closed Friday at $19.01 per share. It has fallen from over $73 in 2006 and has sunk as low as $16.10 in the past year.

The roofing of your house will greatly determine the kind of house you have. A good roof enhances the beauty and the strength of your house. You will thus be able to improve on both qualities by getting the best Dallas roofers if you are to have a suitable house or commercial building. When finding the best Austin roofers you will consider several aspects. You will also have to do plenty of research to get the most appropriate contractor to do your housing project. The process of finding the best Dallas roofers can be tricky depending on the kind of roofing project you are engaged in. In finding such a company, you can follow the simple process outlined below.
First, you need to establish the companies that you can work with. You have to look at the business bureau and ask your relatives and friends. More appropriately, you should ask people with similar projects as yours, that is, similar design and shape and scale. Some Austin roofers have specialized in only one kind of roofing Dallas. This offers several advantages and disadvantages too. If they are specialized in the kind of roofing as similar as yours then you will get expert roofing Dallas. However, such Dallas roofers will not be very suitable to work on a diversified project. Having identified a number of Austin roofers, then you will have to move to the next step of getting the best amongst them.
Check from the company website or visit its official offices and see the portfolio. Looking at previous jobs will help you determine the level of experience and skill possessed by the companies. It will also help you reduce the number of companies now based on their experience, skills and cost. The issue of cost is a tricky one. When dealing with roofing Dallas, ensure you have the whole picture in mind. The best deal is where the company provides all you will need and you just pay the total cost. Usually this is calculated per the square roofing. However, you might need to compare this with the cost if you meet the expenses for getting the material by yourself. To minimize on unwanted future costs, you can rely on the metal roofs Fort Worth and spare yourself future maintenance costs.
Another aspect of the companies you should consider is the equipment they have. The kind of equipment the company has is a determinant of a number of issues. First, it assures you of quality and secondly it ensures the work is completed in time and does not put a huge demand on the available resources. The right modern equipment is also a testament of the company?s expertise. However, for a small job, you will not need to go to such lengths especially a repair job. This is majorly because only big Dallas roofers have the capital to get the latest equipment and are only suitable for large scale roofing Dallas. You should however, get the best deal and the right value for your money. A little extra expense will go a long way in giving you the best roofing Dallas possible.

CHAUVIN, La. (AP) ? As Isaac steamed toward Louisiana on Tuesday, residents along the state's vulnerable, low-lying coast boarded up homes and fled for shelter while storm-wary residents of New Orleans were reassured that levees fortified after Katrina could withstand the anticipated hurricane.
Forecasters predicted Isaac would intensify into a Category 2 hurricane, with winds of about 100 mph, by early Wednesday around the time it's expected to make landfall. The current forecast track has the storm aimed at New Orleans, but hurricane warnings extended across 280 miles from Morgan City, La., to the Florida-Alabama state line. It could become the first hurricane to hit the Gulf Coast since 2008.
Early Tuesday, Isaac was a large and potent tropical storm packing top sustained winds of 70 mph. The storm system was centered about 145 miles southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River at 2 a.m. EDT and moving northwest at 12 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
Although Isaac's approach on the eve of the Katrina anniversary invited obvious comparisons, the storm is nowhere near as powerful as Katrina was when it struck on Aug. 29, 2005. Katrina at one point reached Category 5 status with winds of more than 157 mph, and made landfall as a Category 3 storm.
Still, forecasters at the National Hurricane Center warned that Isaac, especially if it strikes at high tide, could cause storm surges of up to 12 feet along low-lying areas including south Lafourche Parish, where hurricane veteran Windell Curole kept a close eye on the levee system he oversees; and in Houma, a city southwest of New Orleans, where people filled up a municipal auditorium-turned shelter.
Simon and Crystal Naquin decided to bring their teenage sons to the shelter because they were afraid the camper they call home might flood, situated as it is between a navigation canal and lower Bayou Caillou.
Simon Naquin said he rode out hurricanes when he was younger, but doesn't do that anymore since seeing the damage wrought by hurricanes Andrew, Katrina and Rita.
"Now that I got kids, I've seen too much to say, 'Stay,'" said Naquin, who shared a twin air mattress with his wife while their sons read and snacked on jambalaya amid a pile of blankets and next to a stash of water bottles and food.
Not far from the shelter, where the atmosphere was subdued, the lights were low and the music loud at Sue Sue's on the Bayou Sports Bar, owned by the husband-and-wife team of Sonny Diehl, 63, and Sue Diehl, 62.
The couple moved to Houma after they rode out Katrina at a New Orleans hotel.
"I think we take it more seriously down here," Sue Diehl said. "And everybody prepares. They get together, they help each other. It's a great community."
"Everybody helps everybody," Sonny said. "Not so much in New Orleans."
In the Big Easy on Monday, Mayor Mitch Landrieu did not activate a mandatory evacuation. Instead, officials urged residents to hunker down and make do with the supplies they had.
Federal officials said the updated levees around New Orleans are equipped to handle storms stronger than Isaac.
But with landfall expected Wednesday, Katrina's seventh anniversary, anxiety was high, especially in the Lower 9th Ward, wiped out by Katrina after floodwalls burst and let the waters rush in.
"I don't really trust the levees," said Robert Washington, who planned to evacuate along with his wife and five children. "I don't want to take that chance. I saw how it looked after Katrina back here."
He leaned over the banister of his porch railing and looked out onto empty lots where houses stood before Katrina. His neighborhood, just a few blocks away from where the floodwall protecting the Lower 9th Ward broke open, remains largely empty.
Christine Wiltz, 21, wandered down a street in a daze with two of her boys, ages 6 and 4, in tow.
"I just have $10 to my name," she said.
She walking to the nearest general store about a mile away to see what she could buy with her money, then planned to take her boys on a bus across the city to her sister's apartment in Algiers, a collection of neighborhoods on the western side of the city.
"I'm just confused," she said more than once. "I was young when Katrina came, so this is my first time dealing with this."
A few streets over, Arthur Smith was unpacking supplies from his car and taking them into his renovated house.
"We have the lamp oil, the water, non-perishable food items, the radio that works without a battery," he said, listing some items on his checklist.
He was planning to either evacuate or hunker down with his 76-year-old mother and sister. He said that decision would be made Tuesday morning once Isaac's forecast became better defined.
Ky Luu, the head of Disaster Resilience Leadership Academy at Tulane University, said he was impressed by the preparations people were making around the city and the way the authorities informed the public.
"I didn't sense at all any panic," Luu said. "People were methodical and diligent about preparing for this upcoming storm."
Nothing is more frustrating as a parent than knowing that your children aren?t taking you or your disciplining approach seriously. ?Like a cat with a cornered mouse our kids seem to taunt us at times, daring us to discipline them. ?They seem confident by the fact that most of us parents really don?t know what we?re doing nor do we have the stamina or will to keep up with them. ?In order to improve our relationships as parents and to make sure that our discipline can create the results both the parents and children need I?ve put together a few rules to help us along the way.? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?Recognize Who Is the Real Discipline Problem
Most of us that struggle disciplining our children, lack discipline ourselves.? By not having the discipline to discipline, we don?t allow our children to suffer their own consequences.? We become too protective and actually incubate our child from the real trials and realities of life.? Most of us as parents feel like we?re helping the child by protecting them from life, but in reality we?re only making them softer until they have to learn the lesson at another part of their life.? There is a fine balance between mercy and justice that must learn to be walked by every parent in order to create healthier children.
Tool: ?Ask yourself the question?Do you possess the discipline to effectively discipline your children? ?What can you do today to become more disciplined in your ability to discipline your children??
?
Discipline for Growth, Not for ?Gotcha?
Inorder for discipline to be truly effective, we should always remember the reason we are disciplining our child in the first place. Is our discipline designed to punish your child for their past behavior or prepare them for a healthier future?? When it comes to your discipline, do you do it more with a spirit of growth or ?gotcha?? ?When our children sense that our purpose for disciplining them is out of our love and desire for them to live a healthier more productive life, then our discipline doesn?t need to seem personal.? We really can just let the consequences of their actions be the teacher, instead of your punitive punishments. This spirit eliminates the competition that can arise between parent and child and open the child up to being more teachable and willing to see that their discipline is good for them.
Tool: ?Ask yourself the question? Are you punishing to ?get them? or our of retribution, or in the moment are you actually trying to enable growth? ?Would three other witnesses in the room agree with you based on your approach, tone and style?

Lead with the Principle Not the Punishment ?
We have gotten away from the ?law of the harvest? that every farmer on earth had to learn to survive.? The idea that you ?reap what you sow? or that you can really only expect to harvest in fall what you planted in the spring.? Inherent in every moment of discipline are principles that will govern the process.? One key to creating healthy consequences is to make sure that you personally understand the principle behind the lesson you are trying to teach.? For example, let?s say that after your child returns from school, you hear he had been calling another child names and disrespecting her on the way home from school.? That child?s mother has called you to inform you of his behavior.? So when your child walks in the house, what do you do?? If all of our consequences should flow from our principles, then don?t we need to first establish what principles have been violated?? Instead of taking all of your negative energy from being humiliated about your son?s behavior and starting the punishment process, I would suggest we clearly identify one principle that we would want to work on.? Is your problem with your son?s behavior that he was disrespectful, and you want to help him be more respectful?? Or was it that he was too reactive and you want him to be more in control of his emotions?? You must first figure that out in order to know how you would like to discipline the boy.? By clearly seeing that it was a violation of respect and control, you would probably want to choose consequences that are more likely to grow respect and control.? Instead however, when we don?t know the principle we?re trying to improve, we usually end up losing our own control and being disrespectful to our own child by yelling, spanking and grounding them for their behavior.
Tool: ?Identify the real principle behind each punishment before moving into the punishment phase. ?Let the principle guide the punishment, not your emotion.
?
Let Your Child Pick Their Poison
Once we?ve decided what principles were violated by your child, and we really want to create more growth than ?Gotcha?, then we can brainstorm with our child about how they can learn to improve the principle they have violated.? For example, when we understand that our child violated the principle of respect and control, then you can begin to brainstorm ways with your child to improve their ability to better respect others and grow their self-control.? The most valuable part of this part of setting the consequences is the actual conversation and negotiation that will take place between the two of you.? Invite your child to come up with some ways that they can now go and show respect for the girl and the family that he had offended.? Offer your suggestions and invite suggestions from him.? For example, you could suggest that he go over to the family and apologize to the girl and her parents.? Perhaps he could write a letter of apology to the girl and could spend some time alone learning about the impact of respecting other people.? In the end, the forms of discipline are not as critical as the fact that you and your child are actually focusing on the principle that was violated.? Continue with your list until you have enough options that would create real growth for your child in the principle.? This process can also prove valuable for preventative discipline on issues that have been problems in the past and you are trying to set consequences proactively. Once the possible solutions are listed, then let your child pick which of the approaches they most want to complete.? Interestingly, when you are creating consequences for potential or future problems, your child will usually pick consequences that are more severe or strict than you ever would.? That is how you put the teeth in the consequence, simply by letting them set the bar for themselves.? They also are much more inclined to follow a consequence that they created than one you created.
Tools: ?Brainstorm ways or consequences for your child based on the principle that they violated. ?Allow your child to come up with consequences as well and then allow your child to pick the their own consequences based upon your brainstorm list. ?This approach works incredibly well with problems you want to stop in the future as well.
?
Reinforce Your Relationship With Love
In the end, we must remember that our primary purpose for disciplining our children is because we love them.? To discipline our children without them feeling some sense of love will leave the message only partially delivered.? Our children want to please us and they want to improve their lives.? The best conditions for growth and discipline in children will be to have a loving family who is by their side, no matter how they perform.? Our unconditional love in the end is nothing more than us modeling a principle and consequence.? Our love ends up being a lesson that they will never forget.
Tool: ?Always reinforce your child with love, showing him/her that no matter what your love will be their in an unconditional way. ?Allow your love to be the governing principle of all of your discipline.
?
In the end, you discipline because you care and always remember that they care as well. ?Let?s just not let our lack of discipline destroy our discipline.
A car accident is tragic. A damaged car would mean a damaged investment. The worse is, you may get your own injuries as well from the accident. However, what would make the whole circumstance even more tragic is the lack of financial assistance when you expect and deserved it.
This is how structured settlement gets in the picture. Usually, a person involved in a car accident would only be able to have financial assistance after the case has been deemed eligible by the rules of court. Now the thing is, it might take a long time for you to get what you want to claim. But if you take advantage of structured settlement, you get a faster process of acquiring assistance on your medical needs as well as financial needs brought about by the accident.
When one is approved to receive the benefits of the settlement, he gets to have these benefits depending on the terms provided. It may be monthly, quarterly or annually. These benefits will be provided by the life insurance company you have or the federal financial institutions itself. Basically, the essentials of the settlement depend on the judgment of what actually happened in the accident. However, even if you get a lot of these advantages, it is never okay to get it because of an accident. As always, extra care is recommended.
You will never know what will happen next. Even if you are in the middle of a corporate christmas party, anything can happen. Cold weather camping can be more uncomfortable than camping in warmer weather, but with the proper camping meals, your experience doesn?t have to be an ordeal. The best way to deal with colder weather is to take extra care to stay warm and to eat the proper diet for the climate. The average cold weather camper should up their normal diet by an estimated 1000 calories per day for optimum cold weather survival. Therefore, your winter camping meals should be higher in carbohydrates than those you would normally pack for warmer climes.
Winter camping trips have the added bonus of being able to bring foods that would normally be unsafe for summer trips because of potential spoilage. The meal preparation in winter, however, does leave something to be desired. You need to plan meals that are quick and easy to cook, as easy to eat in harsher weather. In essence, pack more food and plan some emergency meals as well, just in case.
Be sure to make room in your pack for instant soup mixes. Things like Cup Of Soup are great for warming you up on a cold winter?s night. Hot drinks, like cocoa, coffee and tea are also good, as long as you also pack something to heat water in, like a campfire pot. Drinking hot beverages and eating soup before retiring will amp up your body temperature, and make wrapping up in that sleeping bag for the night that much more comfortable.
Hiking during the day will require you to eat often, so plan to make several stops along the trail before packing it in for the night. You need to plan simple packets of food for the trail that are easy to eat on the go, as well as high in carbs and proteins. Hiking makes your body burn calories at a higher rate, so the extra carbs and proteins are needed to keep your energy high. A higher energy will also help keep you warm on the trail as well.
The best kinds of easy to eat high protein snacks for trail meals include trail mixes, nuts and jerky. These can be eaten in pretty much any weather conditions, and the jerky can even be put into soup at camp for added flavor. Other good choices for on the trail meals are dried fruits and fatty snacks like chocolate. The fruit can be beneficial for your energy and the chocolate will keep your blood sugar up so that burning those extra calories while hiking won?t be such a drain.
Remember that things will take longer to heat in a campfire than on the stove at home. Unless you are packing a camp stove, stay away from raw vegetables because they take simply forever to cook through. You can always prepare them at home for the trip and take them with you. The cold weather will preserve them until you are ready to cook up some stew. Cook pots with lids are best for preparing meals from scratch, because the lids will preserve the cooking heat in cold temperatures.
Camping in winter weather can be harsh, but with the proper planning, especially for your camping meals, it can be enjoyable. Besides the proper clothing, you will need to think about adding more carbs and proteins to your normal camping meals, as well as planning easier to use ingredients. Remember that canned goods may be quicker to heat, but heavier to carry. Your main concern when camping in cold weather is keeping your energy level high and your body temperature up. Some simple soups and high protein snacks will see you through. The information was given by a lawyer Auckland who usually goes camping on weekends. He is also the owner of a contact lens shop as well as double glazing windows.

Survival Bag Essentials Review?? by Tuitui
Dear Aware and Prepared Friend:
I?m writing to you because I?ve released a system that will help you identify and repair the vulnerabilities in your current survival plan and get even the least prepared family member ready for local, regional,or national disasters.
I?m keeping this short,so please take a second and read the ?VERY? important info below!!.
Have you been paying attention to the news lately?I?m not just talking about the ?stuff? that they put on NBC,ABC,CBS and FOX.Use your computer to educate yourself about what is actually happening in the world, try some of the world news agencies. Why not listen to your normal news outlets and then compare them to what is being reported on by other agencies. The whole world is on the brink of a major change!!
Did you realize there is reportedly a U.N.agenda (Agenda 21) to do away with most private land ownership? They say it starts with what seems to be a pretty innocuous sounding proposal about energy usage. In the end though, the goal is actually the loss of the right to private land ownership.
Let me ask you a few questions:
1.Have you read anything about ?FEMA? camps or railroad cars equipped with leg irons?
2.Have you heard that Homeland Security just contracted for ?450 MILLION? rounds of 40 caliber ammo and an unlimited supply of 223 cal?
Does this sound like a scene out of the Hunger Games?
Well, you can see the government IS preparing for what?s coming!Wouldn?t it be wise for you to prepare also?
Are you starting to feel like you don?t want to go out the door in the morning for fear of what may happen today?Good, then I?m starting to get through to you about the ?seriousness? of knowing how to survive, what you may need for survival gear, and the importance of planning ahead. You know the very thing that gets us out of bed and out of the door every morning, and not cowering in the corner waiting for ?ALL HELL TO BREAK LOOSE? is the very thing that is our biggest danger. It is the belief that IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO ME!
The signs are everywhere and if you dont see them or think ?Oh that wont happen to me? THINK AGAIN!!
Do you think in 2005 Hurrican Katrina victims said the same thing:
In 2005,Hurricane Katrina demolished the city of New Orleans leaving 1,800 people dead and an entire city homeless.A city which is still in 2012 attempting to recover.
In 2008 the global economy began to crumble quickly.By 2011,United States unemployment was up to 14% in most areas.Millions of people with NO source of income. For over 5 years, the country has watched as we teeter on a fine line between totally economic collapse and just making it.
In 2012 New terrorist plans are now discovered on a regular basis, all while North Korea continues testing nuclear weapons.
Being prepared is the best thing that you can do for yourself and your family. You don?t know what the future holds!! Don?t you want to be the hero?
It is about having a plan of action to get you and your family to safety. There WILL come a time when you have to face a disaster so big that you will need to start life over. Will you be ready?

?There will be no way to find the food you need because store shelves will be empty. ?In a Hurricane,Earthquake,Blizzard,Tornado,Flood or Terror Threat you wont be able to find the supplies you need even a few hours after the crisis begins. ?Your chance will be gone if you do not prepare now. Is your ?Bug Out Bag? ready with everything you need to get out of town and survive any crisis?
When a Disaster occurs help may not come in time, and in some cases help may not come at all.If you have everything you need to survive as you travel to safety, your family stands a better chance of survival.Be the provider.Don?t let your family suffer by waiting for ?FEMA? or some other government agency after a disaster.

1.Did you know, that using PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) bottles and the sun, according to the World Health Organization, you can ?simply? make water safe to use?*BTW a great item to stock in your B.O.B.is coffee filters that make a great primary filter, before purifying the water.
2.Now,there are loads and loads of companies on the internet selling freeze dried and dehydrated foods that will a feed a person for anywhere from 2 weeks to a year or more. The prices range from a couple of dollars per meal to over 10 dollars, depending on whether you want meat in your meal or not.I just saw Costco is selling a 1 month supply for one person at about $150.Remember also,if you go to places like ehow.com,you can learn how to dehydrate or freeze dry items yourself and save some money. Donald Robinson said in his book ?The Face of Disaster about people?s attitudes?,(partially quoted); He said,?Large sections of the population?EUR?.simply cannot accept the idea that a disaster is going to befall them. They know that explosions, conflagrations, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, plane, and train crashes do occur. That in wartime bombs will fall. They cannot, however, bring themselves to admit that such catastrophes will touch them personally. That they,or the ones they love, may be horribly injured or even killed. That their private cosmos may be forever disrupted is just too awful to contemplate. It would require them to adopt a changed set of values, and an entirely new frame of reference.? That is more than many people are capable of doing!

Ethiopia will hold a state funeral for late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, who died Monday after 21 years in power, with regional heads of state expected to attend, officials said Saturday.
During the funeral, to be held on September 2, a procession will convene at Addis Ababa's Meskel Square, a vast space in the centre of the city often used for public rallies, and proceed with the coffin to the National Palace.
"It will go from Meskel Square to the palace," said State Minister of Foreign Affairs Berhane Gebre-Christos told reporters.
Several African heads of state are expected to attend, including Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Uganda's Yoweri Museveni, Mwai Kibaki of Kenya and Salva Kiir of South Sudan, according to their respective ambassadors, who met Friday with Berhane to pay their respects.
It is not yet known where Meles -- a former Marxist rebel brought up in the Ethiopian Orthodox Christian tradition -- will be buried.
Former Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie was buried in 2000 at Addis Ababa's Trinity Church, 25 years after being killed during the dictatorship of Mengistu Haile Mariam and his remains stashed in a palace toilet.
Officials could not confirm whether Meles would also be buried in Trinity Church.
Thousands of people gathered at the National Palace this week to view Meles's casket, draped in an Ethiopian flag and surrounded by bunches of flowers and a portrait of the late leader.
Mourners wailed and fell to the ground as they passed the coffin, which rests at the top of a set of carpeted stairs in the palace grounds.
Deputy Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn is expected to be sworn into office to replace Meles at an emergency session of parliament, which could happen "at any time" according to government spokesman Bereket Simon.
A parliamentary meeting to swear in Hailemariam was scheduled to take place on Wednesday but cancelled in order to give the nation a chance to mourn Meles, Bereket said.
"The only thing we are waiting is for the right time, the party has to lead this massive and overwhelming outpouring of Ethiopian people to the streets to express their condolence," Bereket said.
Mengistu, toppled by Meles in 1991, still lives in comfortable exile in Zimbabwe.
Oh, you thought this whole mess was over now that Samsung has to pony up $1.049 billion in damages to its bitter rival Apple? Not by a long shot. According to The Verge, Samsung and Apple attorneys have been talking with Judge Koh about a preliminary injunction hearing, and have apparently agreed to schedule it on September 20. Now that Apple has a considerable jury verdict to back up its claims, you can expect the company to push Samsung hard to either license the infringed patents in question (meaning Samsung would have to pay out even more money on top of the damages it already owes) or bar the Korean electronics giant from peddling some of its questionable wares in the United States.
