WALNUT CREEK ? California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Commissioner Robert J. Hiegert announced Tuesday the hiring of Rebecca Bennett as Director of Communications.

"Becky's familiarity with the CCAA media communications from the perspective of two different institutions, her immediate availability and her CCAA championships experience were key factors in my decision, " Heigert said.

With eight years of experience in the sports information field, Bennett is well versed in all aspects of the profession. ?Most recently, she served as the Assistant Sports Information Director during the 2011-12 school year?at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed working in intercollegiate athletics at the Division II level during the past eight years, "Bennett said. ?"The CCAA obviously has a tremendous history of competitive success and I am proud to now be a part of the conference office."

While with the Toros, Bennett joined Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations Mel Miranda in organizing the media relations efforts of the 2012 NCAA Division II Softball Regionals and Super Regionals held in Carson. ?She also assisted with the publicity of CSUDH's 2011-12 awards, which included five All-American, 23 All-Region, and 26 All-CCAA honors.

In 2011 and 2012, Bennett helped former CCAA Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Al Barba in managing the media communications for the conference softball tournaments held at Arnaiz Field in Stockton, Calif. ?The majority of Bennett's experience in sports information came at Cal State Stanislaus, where she studied and worked from 2004 to 2011. ?There, she served as the Assistant Sports Information Director to Assistant Athletics Director Hung P. Tsai.

During her time with the Warriors, Bennett played a key role in CSUS successfully hosting championships at the conference and national levels. ?In 2011, the CCAA Track and Field Championships and the NCAA D-II Track and Field Championships were held at Al Brenda Track on the CSUS campus in Turlock, Calif.

Bennett earned two degrees in Criminal Justice during her time at Cal State Stanislaus, recieving her Bachelor of Arts in 2008 and a Masters of Arts in 2010. ?A native of Manteca, Calif., Bennett now resides in Livermore.
